The Alfond Youth & Community Center
Proceeds from the Maine Pond Hockey Classic go to support the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA of Greater Waterville at the Alfond Youth & Community Center.
About the Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA:

The Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA at the Alfond Youth & Community Center, Waterville, Maine, is a unique organization comprised of three non-profit organizations [IRS 501(C) (3)]: the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Waterville, The Waterville Area YMCA, and the Alfond Youth Center. It serves more than 5,000 youth in Maine through the main facility in Waterville, Camp Tracy in Oakland, Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland, Boys & Girls Clubs of Augusta and unit sites located in Waterville’s South End, Waterville’s Public Housing Projects, and in Augusta. This is the only merged Boys & Girls Club and YMCA in the country. The Harold Alfond Foundation was joined by other organizations and individuals who contributed to build the state of the art facility in 1999, on a no-cost, 99 year land lease from the City Of Waterville. The Camp Tracy Campus is the site of the Harold Alfond Fenway Park, a two-thirds scale version of the Boston Red Sox’s Fenway; which hosts youth baseball and softball programs. In addition, the Purnell-Wrigley Field complex in Waterville hosts baseball, softball and other athletic programs.
Who the Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA Serves:

As evidenced by the Community Disadvantage Index [CDI], the catchment area includes some of the most disadvantaged populations in Maine. 96% of the youth in the DHHS licensed After School Program are Free/Reduced Lunch program eligible and pay no fees. In addition, adults whom are developmentally delayed are also served through the area’s Families Matter Program.
What the Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA Serves does:

The Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA provides Youth Development, Athletic Activities, and Community Recreation opportunities. The After School Program serves each child a free hot meal and snack. They provide evidence based, scientifically evaluated programs such as Project Learn after school homework help, SMART Moves (Skills Mastery and Resistance Training) prevention/education program addresses problems such as drug and alcohol use and premature sexual activity, Career Prep, and Triple Play health/nutrition education, fitness, and developing healthy relationships.
The Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA offers a wide array of Recreation programs include: swimming, basketball, rock wall climbing, baseball, softball, et cetera. In 2019, the Alfond Youth Center expanded and was renamed the Alfond Youth & Community Center. The addition includes an adult fitness center, spin and exercise studio, Gronk Zone new martial arts dojo, lounge area, teaching kitchen, enhanced locker rooms, and security features.

Since the 1920’s the Waterville Area Boys & Girls Club and YMCA has provided the community with a free Thanksgiving Dinner, serving 500-600 people a full turkey dinner. It is a true community gathering, with a true cross-section of the greater Waterville area attending.
